As a Canadian landscape artist my work certainly focuses on nature; more specifically what I see are the lines that inter-connect within the landscape I paint. Within and around trees, rocks and water connecting to earth, to sky, and to each other. There is a visual rhythm in landscape and I try to find that in the lines, and in the colours. My paintings are created with rich greens, muddy blues, and earthy browns – often with a darkness to convey the strength and solidness of nature, but with light in the corners or the branches.
I am a graduate of the Art & Art History program at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College in Oakville. My forth year painting focus was specifically on abstracted versions of landscape lines. But even before that time, when I was still in grade school, my sketch books are full of drawings of trees. A park close to my childhood home that was full of trees and along a river was my playground, and I guess the influence from being in that park almost daily has stayed with me. Having lived in Banff for 20 years, I had not heard of Riverside Park in Canmore until this painting project. What a delight to find this beautiful place along the Bow River surrounded by trees and mountains.
